Japanese Pear “Nashi(梨)”
Experience the Taste of Japan with Nashi Pears
The Nashi Pear, a staple of Japanese agriculture, offers a uniquely sweet, juicy, and crunchy experience. Originating in China and cultivated extensively in Japan, the Nashi is a cherished variety of pear, setting it apart from its Western and Chinese counterparts.
The beauty of the Nashi pear lies not only in its distinct taste but also in its texture. The fruit’s unique crunchiness is a result of ‘stone cells’, giving the Nashi a texture quite unlike any other pear.
Harvested from late August to November, each fruit is a delightful sphere of 10-18 cm in diameter, with an inviting yellowish-brown or yellow-green skin. Inside, the flesh is sweet and abundantly juicy, a true testament to the fertile lands it grows on.
Taste the Nashi Pear and experience a piece of Japan’s rich agricultural heritage, encapsulated in each and every bite. It’s more than just a fruit—it’s a flavor journey that your customers will surely appreciate and enjoy.
Hosui (豊水)
Hosui: The Quintessential Japanese Pear Experience
Hosui, a variety of pear that was cultivated by masters of the red pear in 1972, continues to be beloved to this day. Originating in Chiba Prefecture, it is now grown nationwide, and its abundant production has earned it a spot as one of the “Three Great Pears of Japan.”
Characterized by its rich sweetness, refreshing tartness, and juicy texture, Hosui is a culinary delight. Each hefty fruit, weighing in between 350g to 400g, is filled with thick, juice-rich flesh, giving you a full, satisfying mouthful with every bite.
The pear’s brightly colored skin, tinged with an attractive red hue, is plump and visually appealing. You can feel its freshness from the firm skin and weight in your hand. To maintain its quality, we recommend storing it in the vegetable compartment of your refrigerator and enjoying it as soon as possible.
Interestingly, the bottom part of the pear, closer to the stem, is sweeter. Cutting it into wedge-shaped pieces ensures an even sweetness with every bite.
Moreover, Hosui’s uniquely balanced sweetness and tartness makes it versatile not only for eating fresh but also for culinary uses. Grated and used to marinate meat, it tenderizes and adds a unique flavor. Simmered with sugar to create a compote, it brings out the pear’s sweetness and tartness, resulting in a delectable dessert.
The best time to enjoy Hosui is from August to September, with its peak harvest period in September. We invite you to taste the freshest, sweetest Hosui during this time. Its freshness and sweetness will undoubtedly delight your palate.

The Niitaka pear was named in 1927, derived from its parent varieties “Amanogawa” from Niigata Prefecture and “Imamuraaki” from Kochi Prefecture. However, recent genetic analysis has suggested that it is likely “Chojuro,” not “Imamuraaki,” which is the parent.
The Niitaka pear has a uniformly plump shape, and a good pear is characterized by a lack of color unevenness in the skin and a firm skin. The weight of the pear also gives a sense of its size. It may have a large size and rough shoulders, but please take it as a unique feature of Niitaka pear.
As for storage, it is ideal to wrap it in newspaper or the like, put it in a plastic bag, and store it in the vegetable compartment of your refrigerator. If it’s fresh, it can last about a week, but it’s best to eat it as soon as possible.

This pear is first-rate in all aspects – size, weight, and flavor. Weighing about 500g each, its abundant sweetness is something you won’t forget once tasted.
The Akizuki pear is a hybrid of the “Shin-taka x Toyosui” and “Yousui” varieties, developed at the Institute of Fruit Tree and Tea Science, NARO. With less acidity compared to general pears, it primarily offers sweetness, enhancing the autumn harvest season as a delightful fruit.
The most distinctive feature of this pear is its sweetness. The flesh is soft with a dense texture. Since it’s low in acidity, the sweetness can be directly tasted, providing a very satisfying eating experience.
The way to select this pear is also unique. The most quality ones are round overall with a broad bottom, giving a solid weight when held. As it ripens, the skin turns brown.
As for storage, it is recommended to wrap the pear in newspaper or similar material, place it in a plastic bag, and store it in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator. This ensures minimal temperature fluctuations, preventing the loss of juice and maintaining its taste for a long time.
In addition to eating Akizuki pears as they are, they can also be used in cooking. You can make compote by simmering them with sugar, or they can be part of meat dishes. Also, marinating meat in grated pear for about 15 minutes will soften the meat and add the pear’s natural sweetness to the sauce, offering a win-win situation.
